Why -20℃ for Wireless Products?
If you are wondering why our battery-powered products are tested to -20℃ rather than -40℃, the answer lies in battery chemistry.
Lithium-ion batteries—the same technology used in smartphones and electric vehicles—experience reduced capacity and slower charging at low temperatures. Below -20℃, many cells become unreliable, and charging can become unsafe without sophisticated heating systems. Rather than overstate our specifications, we test our wireless products to the limits of their realistic operating range, and we build in thermal protection to ensure safe behaviour at the edges.
For wired products, which draw power from mains electricity and don’t rely on battery chemistry, we push the limit to -40℃.
